A postman’s daily route is an odyssey of illusions and dreams that surge from the extraordinary parcels he carries on the back of his bicycle. As the secret of each parcel is uncovered, he reveals a fanciful continent, a fantasy of holidays, and an atmosphere of uninhibited games set against a background of palm trees and ocean. The images unleashed from these carefully wrapped packages will transport the audience from the jungle, to the circus, to a world full of sharks, mermaids, and tropical birds. Warm, funny and poetic, The Postman is a living postcard sure to unleash the imagination. www.velotheatre.com

Wearing incredible troll masks by an award-winning designer, two performers accompanied by a live musician take audiences deep into the forests of Scandinavia. It’s Grandpa Trollson’s 200th birthday, and the whole forest is invited. But, Grandpa doesn’t want anything to do with it, and has refused to come out of the tree-stump! Only the power of storytelling, and the help of willing audience participants seem to help. Join us for some fun in the forest, including tales by Hans Christian Andersen, music, improvisation, and good old-fashioned Troll trouble!

The stories in The Flying Canoe take place many years ago when the first European people came to Canada. Through a talking cat, the devil at a dance and a bear in a canoe, we have an engaging introduction to the culture, music and language of the first Francophones in Canada – the voyageurs, the loggers, the trappers and farm families – whose humour, imagination and courage helped found our country. The story of The Flying Canoe, La Chasse-Galerie, was first published in Canada in 1900 by Honoré Beaugrand. This well-known French Canadian tale is the centerpiece for this production of the myths, legends and daily life in early French Canada.
Curriculum Connections: Puppetry, Music, Historical Content, Symbols in Dramatic Expression, Traditional Crafts, Archival Film Footage, French Language
